New Spider-Man coming in June?

The Broadway musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, has halted production in order to revamp the ailing show.

The musical is undergoing a major overhaul with a new creative team being brought in to develop the staging, assist with rewrites and create additional choreography.

U2 band members Bono and The Edge have also produced new songs for the revamped show.

In March, producers of the £40 million production, the most expensive in Broadway history, hired a new team to replace director Julie Taymor.

Actor Reeve Carney, who plays the lead role, said that he was excited about the new show but praised the "vision" of Taymor, who also created the award-winning Lion King.

He said: "Julie is one of my closest friends, she's the one who made me pretty much - I wouldn't be here without Julie Taymor.

"But you know, this new version, while there are going to be changes it's still true to the heart of her vision. It's just having a little bit of extra help, that's all it is."

The musical has been plagued with problems since it first opened for previews. In December a stuntman was injured after falling from a high platform and an actress suffered concussion after she was hit by a rope while offstage.

Reviews for the original version were also scathing, with The New York Times saying the musical was "so grievously broken that it is beyond repair".
