U2's "Winter" gets Golden Globe nomination; Is upper level worth it for "360"?

Jill Marino, U2 Examiner

It was a beautiful day for U2 today, as the band received a nomination for a Golden Globe award.

"Winter", the song U2 contributed to the film "Brothers", was recognized in the Best Original Song category. The band is up against legend Paul McCartney for his work on the film "Everybody's Fine". Music from the movies "Nine", "Avatar", and "Crazy Heart" are also vying for a win.

U2 are no strangers to the Globes, having won for "The Hands That Built America" from "Gangs of New York". Whether U2 will win this year is up in the air, but they might have a better chance at the Grammys instead.

"Variety" has the full list of Golden Globe nominees here. The ceremony will be held on Sunday January 17th, 2010.

Don't forget: "It Might Get Loud", the great documentary featuring Edge, will be out on DVD next Tuesday. Just in time for Christmas to gift the rocker in your life!

While the "360" itinerary seems to have quieted down, I'm curious if the band will add more US dates to next year's leg after the holidays. I'm not sure if they really want to limit the NJ/NY show to just one. U2 has such a special relationship with NYC that I couldn't imagine them only playing one date. We shall see.

I'm probably going to see them in Philadelphia in addition to the July 19th show in NJ. My problem is that the only $55 tickets that are left are on the upper level of the stadium and behind the stage. So while U2 will look like ants, I'm not sure how much of the screen I'll see, but I guess being so high up I'll see the Claw pretty well!

I might end up getting them on StubHub because they have lower level tickets towards the side of the stage starting at $65. I wouldn't mind sitting towards the side- I sat there in Raleigh and it was great. I saw U2 getting on/leaving the stage as well as perfect views of Adam and Edge on the archways (check the pix on my Flickr). I'm going with someone who has never seen U2 live before, so I want my friend to be able to see all "360" has to offer!

Thoughts? Did you sit in the upper level of the stadium when you saw "360"? How did it go? Should I stick with the $55 tickets from Ticketmaster, or get better seats on StubHub for a little more money? Maybe I'm just some spoiled U2 fan who has to see them in the best seats available. I'll be in the GA pit a week after the Philadelphia show anyway. But it would be nice to see "360" 2.0 in all its glory in a great seat.
