Remarks:
U2 perform the seventeenth of forty shows at the Sphere at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. Attendance is 18,600; a sellout. Tickets range from $140 to $500 (for presale ticket prices) but many sell at resale prices of $400 to $1,450. The opening music act is Pauli "The PSM" Lovejoy, who is the official Atomic MC / DJ host of the UV Dance Party opening each U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere concert.
With U2 taking a long break between this concert and the next (set for December 1, 2023), Bono makes an extended monologue prior to "All I Want Is You". Here is a portion of his speech: "Honey, we're home. Thank you my friend... So the balloon was taking me for a walk. We don't fully understand the symbolism of the balloon. It's a very expensive trick and we need to understand it better. I think it's something to do with the male ego and it needing to be burst I think. The concept was dreamed up by The Edge's missus and great choreographer, Morleigh Steinberg Evans. She might know. I think we should put the baby to bed, The Edge, even for 20 minutes, you know what I mean? In fact, when we finish tonight, we're going to be putting the whole show to bed for nearly a month... three weeks. So yeah, we're going to take a little break from Las Vegas. Just a three week break. We've had an amazing time here. Really amazing time. We'd like to thank you all, but particularly the hard working people who look after the not so hard working people like us. Twenty four hours a day to give us a fun time. Have you had a fun time? And we've had a very fun time..."
Following "All I Want Is You", Bono also talks about Formula 1 racing and that the band is "giving Las Vegas back" to them. Bono adds: "Now, if you don't know what Formula 1 is, it's a sport where very tidy, lean, mean men and some extraordinary women, ehh, climb onto rockets and try to stay on Earth and not achieve orbit... something like that. A little like rock and roll actually... less dangerous!" Next come the playful introductions with Bono channeling Formula 1 race car drivers: "Coming out of one of the forth great things out of Holland, on the drums, Max Verstappen! On the bass, the most elegant man on the circuit. Who is it? Who is it? Lewis Hamilton... on the bass. And on guitar, the Monaco marvel himself: Charles Leclerc. Now I'm at home with country music and metal. And I am the right person to bring peace between Formula 1 and Nascar. On vocals, Daniel Ricciardo."
