Remarks:

After nearly 70 stadiums and a tour that started in May of 2017 in Vancouver, the final show of the 2019 Joshua Tree Tour took place tonight in Mumbai, India. This was U2's very first concert in the country of India in the band's 43 year history. Tonight's concert was very special, as former Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher took the stage to perform "Desire" with U2. Towards the end of the show, U2 invited out Indian director/producer/singer A.R. Rahman along with his daughters Raheema and Khatija, as well as NYC songwriter Rianjali, to perform the debut of "Ahimsa", a new song U2 wrote with A.R. Rahman. The word "Ahimsa" means non-violence in Indian, and was inspired by Gandhi's message of non-violence, or as "India's greatest gift to the world", as Bono put it. Afterwards, the group stayed to perform "One" along with Noel Gallagher and the rest of U2 in front of an ecstatic audience. Bono spoke tonight and said: "We come to India as pilgrims. Like so many over centuries... we come in search of the great soul Gandhi. We are students... and you are our teachers..." Included in tonight's concert were also snippets of Oasis' "Live Forever" and "Give Peace a Chance", which was performed after "Bad". Bono spoke at length regarding the latter snippet: "India, India, India what a story you're writing! You're just getting started aren't you? The other day we were at the house of Mahatma Gandhi... the latest pilgrims on that journey. Martin Luther King came and slept there. John and Yoko came to this city as students of peaceful protest, taught us this prayer: All we are saying is give peace a chance... You know what I'm talking about... women know what I'm talking about... some minorities know what I'm talking about... the next door neighborhood knows what I'm talking about... So let's sing it loud: All we are saying is give peace a chance. In every corner of this great country and around the world... sing it with us... India taught us this song... Then with your votes, turn this meditation into legislation. All we are saying... is give peace a chance..."
