Remarks:
U2 made its return to the country of Argentina for the first of two shows in La Plata, a planned city near Buenos Aires. In addition to regular opener Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, local band Joystick is also one of the opening bands. The concert kicked off very late, around 10:30 PM, due to the live broadcast of the FIFA World Cup qualifier between Argentina and Ecuador (Argentina ended up winning). Bono congratulated Argentine soccer player Lionel Messi twice in the evening, first early in the show when he alluded to "God existing because of him" and later after the show ended (Bono popped a bottle of champagne and called Messi "his lordship"). Earlier, fans at the show organized a flash mob with white napkins that were waved in the air during "Mothers of the Disappeared".
