Remarks:
For the second night of U2's home video shoot, the band seeks continuity with last night's show. The setlist is the same until the final few songs. Laura, the fan who played guitar during 'Party Girl' last night, reprises that role tonight, but with a new twist as Bono ends the song by spraying a bottle of champagne on her, the band, and the crowd. It's Bono's birthday, and the crowd sings 'Happy Birthday' to him after 'Mysterious Ways.' Bono dances with a fan during 'Mysterious Ways' and brings a young boy on stage during 'Into The Heart.'
They also did "Hands that Built America" during the Bullet Blue Sky/When Johnny Comes Marching Home piece.
I am a long-time U2 fan, 15-20 years, but a first time concert goer. How can that be? Well, you could blame my poor financial state years ago, and now you can blame my slow action on "tickets go on sale days"...but regardless, I have now seen U2 in concert, and what a performance it was.
Bono was serenaded with birthday wishes, while a capacity crowd at Chicago's United Center was rocked for nearly 2 1/2 hours by the Irish powerhouse.
The band was filming for a DVD of the Vertigo tour and did not forget that fact for a moment.
Great renditions of Party Girl, Bullet the Blue Sky, All Because of You...and one I hear they haven't been doing on tour Original of the Species. They even did an encore of Vertigo.
Edge's guitar, keyboard and unbelievably clear vocals were awesome. Adam Clayton looked as though he was having the time of his life, and Larry Mullen never missed a beat --(don't miss Bono on tom-tom). What a show. To Tribune Critic Greg Kot - you've been tainted.
U2 still rules.
A good show, but not a great one. During the encores, it was obvious that Bono was changing the songs. Why play Vertigo twice? Was there a technical glitch during the recording of the first? With their catalog of awesome songs, there is NO WAY U2 should repeat any song.
This was the best concert of all time from the Best band in the world! Hands Down!
