U2 - New Year's Day - additional corrections and recommendations Tabbed by: Christopher S. Gordon e-mail me: [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Just about every tab I've seen of this song would have you tune down a half-step. It's unnecessary, since you can just play the frets a half- step higher to get the exact same notes. Call it a time saver of sorts. Main Riff: G---------------------------------------------------- D--------9-------------1-----------4-------------4--- A--11-11---11---11/2-2---2---2/6-6---6---6---6-6---6/ E---------------------------------------------------- One part that I've found missing from all these tabs is the trailing portion of the main riff heard 18 seconds into the song (amongst other places). If you've played any of these tabs to the CD, you know what I'm talking about. Bridge: G----------------- D----------------- * means repeat note A--9*-7*-11*-9*-7* E----------------- And finally, the chorus transposed a half-step. Chorus: G----------------- D----------------- * means repeat note A--9*-11*-9*-7*--- E----------------- That should do it. U2 "New Year's day" - bass tab *correction* ------------------------------------------- Here's the correct way Adam Clayton plays the song. Tune down 1/2 step Main riff: G----------------------------------------------------- D--------10-------------2-----------5-------------5--- A--12-12----12---12/3-3---3---3/7-7---7---7---7-7---7/ E----------------------------------------------------- You can choose to play it with or without the slides, personnaly I prefer to play it with the slides. It sounds very cool. In live performances Adam plays it with slides. Chorus: G----------------- D----------------- * means repeat note A--10*-12*-10*-8*- E----------------- There are slight variations to the chorus during the beginning of the song and before The Edge's guitar solo. These variations are G-------------------- D-------------------- A--10*-8*-12*-10*-8*- E-------------------- These are the parts that make the song. Just listen to it to know where to play the parts correctly.
