Remarks:
U2 visited the country of South Korea for the very first time tonight in the band's 43 year history. Bono: "It's been a long, long road that has bought us to Seoul and Korea and you but it doesn't matter how long it takes... as long as you get there in the end." On this historic day in U2's history was also an historic day in the history of music, as it was the 39th anniversary of John Lennon's assassination. Bono recalled the band being in NYC the night Lennon was killed and said: "... can still feel it... great peacemaker, great soul... sing with us. Blessed are the peacemakers... Peacemakers in our neighbourhood... Peacemakers in this country, north and south... We pray for the peacemakers, will you sing with us..." Indeed Bono was also referring to the elusive yearning for peace between North and South Korea, dedicating "One" to the hope that both countries unite as one. In addition to a long snippet of Ben E. King's "Stand by Me", U2 honored The Beatles tonight with snippets of "She Loves You", "Love Me Do", and "All You Need Is Love".
