March 17, 1978 - Limerick, Ireland - Harp Lager Contest

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Setlist:

Street Mission, Life On A Distant Planet, The TV Song.

Remarks:

The Hype changes its name to U2 as they arrive for tonight’s Limerick Civic Week Pop ‘78 competition. The prize includes a chance to audition for CBS Records. This is one of the earliest appearances of the band as U2 (or “U2 Malahide”) rather than Feedback or The Hype. The setlist is believed to be complete but the order is unconfirmed. “The TV Song” is an early U2 original named because the band felt it resembled the sound of the band Television. Tonight’s preliminaries are held at venues around Limerick. U2 are one of 36 acts competing, and make it through to tomorrow’s finals.
