Last night's show was indeed wonderful - U2 was in top form. 'The First Time' was magical, and what can one say about Miss Sarajevo? What a beautiful song. 'Streets' brought down the house as usual and 'With of Without You' was deeply emotional. 'City of Blinding Lights' is a great opening song with a wonderful light show, but it really lacks the drive as a show opener when compared to 'Love Peace or Else', and ends up setting the tone for a more mellower show. For 'Out of Control', Bono invited up on the stage an all-girl band to play it. They played the song well enough with help from Edge on guitar, though the girl drummer uncomfortably rushed the songs tempo towards the end - but hey, I guess it's supposed to be 'out of control'.

I also saw them play Staples and Glendale arena in Arizona last April, and compared to those shows last night's Staples show was more relaxed with overall less drive and push by the band (the edges were smooth rather than sizzling and jagged). Also, the sound mix at Staples last night was quite crappy and muddled, both for U2 and the Bob Marley Jr band who opened the show. Edge's guitar playing specially was at times almost completely lost within a wall of diffuse and undefined sound. That's my one real criticism of what was otherwise a splended show by easily the best band ever.
