2.25.99 - SonicNet News
Franklin's 'Lean on Me' was nominated for Song of the Year but lost. Contributing Editor Brian Hiatt reports: U2 singer Bono joined Kirk Franklin, Mary J. Blige and other stars to sing a large-scale version of Franklin's "Lean on Me" (RealAudio excerpt), with a full choir. Seal was also scheduled to join the group, but he didn't show up. He reportedly had a severe cold. "Lean on Me" was nominated for Song of the Year, but lost out to the Celine Dion hit, "My Heart Will Go On." Bono wore a gray cap, black leather jacket and black-rimmed shades.
