If you're a fan of U2, then chances are, you're probably aware of the controversy going on in Malibu between The Edge and the nearby residents. They're apparently upset about the proposed project that includes the building of five mountaintop mansions. His neighbors are doubting his green pitch, as well as saying it will scar the mountain side. The Edge does state that these homes will be some of the most environmentally sensitive. I've heard both sides of the story and I really believe the Irish icon has a right to build if he so wishes. Now I know it's easy for me to say as I live in the middle of wide open spaces, and my neighbors are wild horses, but this is rural Nevada. I believe when you go to Malibu, you expect to see many lavish, extravagant homes, but then again, that's just my take on it. It's sad to hear that people are doubting his word and credibility, as a public figure, The Edge's credibility spans for more than thirty years, as well as for the other Irish lads in the band. I believe we need to compromise with each other, this is one world, and we all need to share it.

I welcome your thoughts and comments,

- Karen

Hey Karen,

I'm the other blogger here. I wonder if those mansions would be getting so much bad publicity if it wasn't the Edge. Maybe the locals in Malibu are seeing an opportunity for some publicity and are taking advatage of it. I'm a journalism student and I read some of the stories about this trying to diseect them from a journalism point of view. Some were unbiased where the reporter did try to get both sides of the story. But, then of course, most were not. I read one where the source worked in a surf shop and said something to the effect of, "he has more money than God so why does he need to do this." I had to laugh out loud. I would never use a source like that. I looked at your website and I love the photos of the horses.

Best Wishes,

Brenda

Hi Brenda,

I really believe that The Edge is not receiving fair treatment, other people in the area have built there, yet The Edge gets singled out, not fair. He has done many great things with his money, such as, he is one of the founders of Music Rising, to learn more about this wonderful organization please go to www.musicrising.org. He really does deserve, and has the right to build. I also agree with you Brenda, sounds like some locals in the area were possibly looking for some publicity at The Edge's expense, as I haven't heard a follow up story.

Blessings,
