Remarks:
A special concert occurs tonight at Harlem's Apollo Theater in NYC. U2 performs in front of 1,500 people that included contest winners and specially invited guests. The show, the first U2 has ever performed at the Apollo Theater, was set to broadcast on June 13 on SiriusXM. The venue's seats on the floor were removed for the first time ever to accommodate standing room GA tickets. U2 performed a mix of old and new songs that contained an 11 song main set as well as a 1-2-3 punch of Rattle & Hum songs to start off the encore ("Angel of Harlem", "Desire", and "When Love Comes to Town"). Not only are those songs played, but the Sun Ra Arkestra, a 13 piece ensemble, joins U2 in the performance for nearly half of the encore as they stood on a raised platform behind drummer Larry Mullen. "Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of", which was originally inspired by the death of INXS singer Michael Hutchence, was dedicated to the recent death of celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain. Soon after that song ended, Bono and the Edge performed a stripped down performance of "Every Breaking Wave" and Bono messed up on the lyrics (and the duo needed to restart the song again). Adam Clayton and Larry rejoined Bono and the Edge for the final 2 songs: "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses" (last performed on the opening night of the Experience + Innocence Tour) and "Love Is Bigger Than Anything in Its Way". Spotted at the concert were celebrities Harry Belafonte, Cindy Crawford, Jon Bon Jovi, Little Steven, Andy Cohen, Robert Kraft, and John McEnroe.
