The statement added Mr Evans will be "very sadly missed" by his children and extended family, including The Edge's wife Morleigh and their children.

His funeral will take place in Howth Presbyterian Church at 11am tomorrow.

Mr Evans spoke about his relationship with his famous son in a magazine interview with .

"We have always got along very well together," he said.

"And I can honestly say we have never had the slightest disagreement that I can remember - ever."

Last year, The Edge shared some of his childhood memories with his father for book Sons + Fathers. In the book The Edge recounted going on a fishing trip in Wales with his dad. "That is indelibly printed in my memory," he said.
